Turismo de Portugal launches FOREST - Organisational and Reporting Tool for Sustainability in Tourism

Funding and investment

09.02.2023

In order to promote sustainability guidelines in the sector's value chain and boost its potential within the framework of Agenda 2030, Turismo de Portugal launched the “Empresas Turismo 360°" (360° Tourism Companies) Programme, focused on building a global model for measuring and assessing the environmental, social and governance performance of companies. Designed in partnership with 18 entities and following the market demands and society's current expectations, this model aims to guide companies towards a measurable performance in the field of sustainability, ensuring a structural adaptation of the sector to new realities and challenges.

The concern with creating means for companies to analyse inefficiencies and vulnerabilities in their systems and develop mechanisms for compensation and growth was at the basis of the design of an exclusive portfolio that covers the entire process of collection, measurement, reporting and monitoring of environmental, social and governance practices, and is anchored on ESG - Environmental, Social and Governance factors.

In addition to the training actions on "ESG Management" started in February 2022, which had over 700 participants, and a manual explaining the sustainability performance reporting procedures, the Programme portfolio includes, as of today, an innovative digital tool for collecting, managing and reporting data associated with the sectorial ESG performance indicators - accessible, exclusively, to the companies adhering to the 360° Tourism Companies Programme.

As an analytics and sustainability performance reporting tool, FOREST - Organisational and Reporting Tool for Sustainability in Tourism allows to automate the collection, management and reporting of data associated with ESG metrics, to obtain a sustainability report adapted to the sector and prepared in accordance with global standards, and to capture and aggregate business intelligence data that enables comparability of information.

By making FOREST available, Turismo de Portugal reinforces the intervention framework of the 360° Tourism Companies Programme, providing a tool designed to contribute, in a measurable way, to the resilience of companies facing today's environmental, social and economic challenges and to the continued competitiveness of the tourism sector, always aiming not only at achieving the goals of the 2027 Tourism Strategy, but also at the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
