Based on data from the European Survey of Enterprises on New and Emerging Risks (ESENER), the
European Report on Accommodation and Restaurant Activities was published on 31 March 2023.
Accommodation and catering are key sectors for the EU economy, with 98% of these businesses being family-run micro-enterprises. Occupational safety and health (OSH) risks related to the sector are plentiful: from repetitive hand or arm movements, slips, trips and falls, to the risk of machine accidents, to the psychosocial risks associated with serving customers and tight deadlines.
The
European Survey of Enterprises on New and Emerging Risks, run by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA), looked at this issue and studied how European organisations manage occupational safety and health risks when it comes to the accommodation and catering sector. The report presents an in-depth analysis of ESENER's findings for the sector, as well as a literature survey and interviews with sectoral social partners.
On this basis, it includes sector-specific measures to improve risk management in accommodation and food services, policy indicators and an analysis of the impact of the pandemic of COVID-19.
