Research for TRAN Committee - Overtourism: impact and possible policy responses is the title of the study commissioned by the European Parliament – Transport and Tourism Committee, dedicated to analysing the impacts and possible public policy responses to overtourism.

The study addresses the complex phenomenon of overtourism in the EU. By focusing on a set of case studies, the study reports on overtourism indicators, discusses management approaches implemented within different destinations and assesses policy responses. Lisbon is one of the 41 case studies analysed and presented with statistics and impact and policy analyses.

The study concludes that a common set of indicators cannot be defined, due to the complex causes and effects of overtourism. The need to avoid overtourism requires the development of tailor-made policies, which result from cooperation between stakeholders and policymakers.
