Get to know the 1st and 2nd places of the 2022 +Accessible Beach Award

The Instituto Nacional para a Reabilitação, I.P.  (National Institute for Rehabilitation - INR, I.P.), the Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente, I.P.  (Portuguese Environment Agency - APA), and Turismo de Portugal, I.P. (TP), inform that the Accessible Beaches winners of the 14th edition of the 2022 +Accessible Beach Award are Salgueiros Beach, in Vila Nova de Gaia, and the River Beach of Alqueva, in Portel.

The +Accessible Beach Award distinguishes the bathing areas that show the best practices, both in terms of the quality of the accessibility conditions and support provided to people with reduced mobility and their companions, and in terms of the innovative solutions adopted to prevent discrimination against these citizens and increase their degree of satisfaction with the conditions of enjoyment provided there.

The National Jury of the Award is composed of representatives from the Instituto Nacional para a Reabilitação, I.P.  (National Institute for Rehabilitation - INR), which presides, Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente, I.P. (Portuguese Environment Agency - APA), Turismo de Portugal (TP), Directorate-General for the Maritime Authority/Institute for Shipwrecked Rescue (DGAM/ISN), European Blue Flag Association (ABAE) and the entity sponsoring the Award, the company IACESS, which annually awards equipment to support bathing, aimed at improving the accessibility of the winning bathing areas.

Of the twenty-seven applications, assessed by the National Award Jury, the winners are Salgueiros Beach, in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia, and the River Beach of Alqueva, in the municipality of Portel. The jury also determined the attribution of an honourable mention to Pedrógão - Centre Beach, municipality of Leiria, for the work demonstrated in the improvement of the accessibility conditions.​​​​​​​​​
