In 2023, the tourism sector accounted for the highest numbers on record across the main tourism demand indicators. These figures confirm the weight of the sector in the Portuguese economy, with tourist revenue reaching 9.5% of the country’s GDP, and 48.6% and 19.9% of Exports of Services and Global Exports, respectively.
In 2023, tourist operations exceeded the record values reached in 2019 in terms of overnight stays (+10.0%) and guests (+10.7%).
30.0 million guests were registered, of which 18.3 million were foreigners, an increase of 13.3% and 19.1% respectively, when compared to 2022.
